Bob Knight Interested in UGA

Bookmark

How would you like the winningest coach in the history of college basketball? Maybe we need some chairs thrown to spark some interest. If Knight came to UGA, it would be a great thing. Even if just for a few years, he could bring the UGA program back into the spotlight. He has won 902 games, and there’s something about coaching in the SEC that intrigues him…probably the fact he could get to 1000 wins in 5 seasons in a weak SEC. Why does Knight want to leave Texas Tech? According to one of this friends, he feels he has done all he can for the Red Raiders. Damen Evans has an easy decision. UGA needs a great coach, a proven leader, and a proven winner. Most of all, UGA needs someone who’ll bring the program into the spotlight and have the ability to recruit. The job that he did for the Red Raiders was incredible. He brought a team that has won 3 Big-12 games per year, and got them to average 10 in his tenure. UGA is not as bad as Texas Tech. They will always lose recruits to Texas, Oklahoma, USC, etc. The competition UGA has is with Kentucky, Duke, and UNC. There are great athletes in the state and area and Knight could recruit them. His knowledge of the game and proven record will allow UGA to rise. My words to Evans, “Sic Em” and go get this legend.

Correction, Bob Knight left Texas Tech at the end of the 2007-08 season. He is currently working as an anlysis for the family of ESPN networks. It would surprise me if the Texas Tech would want Knight back, remember he popped a kid in the chin. But Jeremy is right. Bringing Knight to an ailling SEC team like UGA can only be good. The only good historical teams in the SEC are Kentucky, Tennasee, and Florida. I think it is more then reasonable to believe that Knight can, and will, compete at a high level in the SEC and achieve 1000 wins within 5 years.

this article makes no sense. he hasn't coached at tex tech for over a season and they're in the big 12 (so who cares about their pac 10 record?). also i should think that georgia tech and florida steal most of our potential recruits. anyway the word is that he's waiting for an offer, rather than actively pursue the job, but he seems content with his espn position right now. i think itd be awesome to bring a big name in, itd certainly help bring in money, recruits and good assistants.. who knows, maybe he could mentor an assitant to take over after he's done in a couple years. i'd drive back to athens to watch him coach, for sure.

If UGA gets him...I hope he slaps at least 5 players per game. That'll put a lil pep in their step.
